End of Internship Spotlight
By: Klacie Groene-Junior Public Relations and Marketing Associate
Last summer looked a little different than most. Normally, I spent a lot of time in the barn working with my livestock. I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and expand my knowledge in marketing, communications, and hemp!
My time as a Public Relations and Marketing intern at Wyoming Hemp Company (WHC) was rewarding and transformative. I was introduced to another sector that was different from the other sectors of the agriculture industry I already knew. Throughout my time in High School, I was active in FFA and competed in Marketing Plan, and Agricultural Sales and found success both at the state and national level. This internship was a great opportunity to combine my passions and prepare me for a future career.
While at WHC, I had the opportunity to gain a variety of hands-on experiences to strengthen my skill set. My responsibilities included developing social media content, designing graphics, writing blog articles, and finding advertising opportunities. I additionally attended trade shows and participated in different events that allowed me to promote and advocate for the industrial hemp industry.
Here’s what I learned:
Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and shake someone’s hand because you do not know the opportunities that will come out of it. It is alright to not know information, but do not be afraid to ask questions to better understand what you are struggling with. Say yes to every opportunity that is presented to you. I know that is a common phrase, and it is true. Whether it is to sit in on a meeting, go on tours, or learn about precision agriculture equipment and techniques. Do not be afraid to reach out to others; the connections you have will help you in the long run. As you work on projects, your skills, abilities, and creativity will grow. Internships are a learning experience; soak up as much knowledge as you can. You will not regret the things that you say yes to.
Another critical lesson learned from this internship was the importance of connections. The connections built during this time will provide long-term benefits for future careers. As the projects were given to me during the internship, I saw how my creativity and communication skills evolved through real-world experiences.
My experience with Wyoming Hemp Company was nothing short of amazing and I have continued my path with Wyoming Hemp Company as the Junior Public Relations and Marketing Associate. It allowed me to expand my communication skills and gain a better understanding of the industrial hemp industry and its role in agriculture. Stepping away from familiar environments can be rewarding. I was able to grow and strengthen my communication and professional skills while reaffirming my passion for the field of agricultural communications.
