Finding My Footing in the Hemp World: My Internship at Wyoming Hemp Co.

As Jace wraps up her internship with us, the entire team at Wyoming Hemp Company wants to extend a heartfelt thank-you for everything she’s contributed over the past few months. From day one, Jace brought energy, creativity, and a strong work ethic to our team—and it didn’t take long for her to become an essential part of our daily operations. Whether she was building social media campaigns, designing eye-catching graphics, or helping educate customers about the power of hemp, Jace always showed up ready to learn and lead. We’re incredibly proud of her growth and can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next!  We also want to thank the State of Wyoming's Workforce Development Training Fund for making her internship possible!  Check out her blog below to learn about her growth and experience with the Wyoming Hemp Company!

By: Jace Hurlburt | Wyoming Hemp Company Social Media Intern

As my internship with Wyoming Hemp Company (WHC) comes to a close, I find myself feeling excited—not just about the future of WHC, but about my own journey as well.

I attended Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, where I earned my associate degree in business administration. During my time there, I was a member of the rodeo team, competing in the roping events at college rodeos. Life was busy, and truthfully, I wasn’t exactly looking to add more to my plate. But when I came across an opportunity at WHC, something clicked.

Why WHC?

I initially joined the WHC team looking for a part-time job. I’ve always been interested in marketing and social media, but I wasn’t sure if that would be my main role. As time went on, pieces started to fall into place, and I naturally found myself stepping into a larger role with their digital platforms.

From the beginning, WHC believed in me. They gave me the freedom to learn, try new things, and find my voice. Through this experience, I not only built real-world marketing skills, but I also found my confidence—something that’s hard to develop when you're just starting out.

In fact, this internship gave me the courage to start my own equine marketing and social media business, Arrow H Media. I owe a huge thank-you to the WHC team for pushing me to chase those dreams, even when they felt scary.

How I Grew as a Professional and a Person:

We are a very small team, so I had to take a leadership role in our social media development and engagement. Some of my main responsibilities included:

  • Planning and running social media content calendars.

  • Creating and executing multi-week campaigns.

  • Designing graphics using apps and platforms like Canva.

  • Writing captions and pulling product benefits and facts to share.

  • Finding new, creative ways to get WHC’s name out there—online and offline.

One of our biggest goals at WHC is education. A lot of people still have misconceptions about hemp, especially in the agricultural world. Helping customers understand what hemp is, what it isn’t, and how it can benefit their animals has been a huge part of our message.

A Bit About Wyoming Hemp Co.

WHC is a small but mighty company based in Wyoming that focuses on premium hemp bedding and hemp seed supplements for animals. From small pets like rabbits and reptiles to livestock and horses, their products promote animal wellness with an eco-friendly footprint. Hemp is naturally absorbent, low in dust, and biodegradable, making it a smart, sustainable choice for animals and their owners.  They also sell a non-toxic, hemp-based mulch that helps keep weeds down, moisture in and soils healthy.  WHC recently partnered with Wild Ass Soap to launch two new scents: Rugged Charm and Prairie Rose.  Who knew hemp soap was so good for your skin? The team is also expanding into new industries with their products. Stay tuned for some exciting updates!  Hemp is truly an amazing plant with endless uses.

But WHC is more than just a product—it’s a passionate team that feels like a family. Whether it's calving season chaos or late-night brainstorming for a giveaway, we all pitch in and lift each other up.

The Highs and the Challenges

Social media is such a highlight reel, and it’s tough to consistently find a niche in a space that’s evolving so quickly. One challenge I face regularly is creative burnout, especially in an industry like hemp. It’s not always easy to market a product that people either don’t understand or are skeptical about.

Unlike big-name products backed by mainstream trust, we’re often starting from scratch. But that’s also what makes each win so rewarding. Every sale feels sweeter because we know the heart and hustle behind it.

Final Thoughts & Gratitude

This internship wasn’t just about building a resume, it was about building confidence. I’ve learned so much about communication, entrepreneurship, and the power of believing in your own ideas. Most importantly, WHC has shown me what it looks like to work with people who treat you like family.

For any student looking for hands-on experience, especially in agriculture, small business, or marketing, I can’t recommend opportunities like this enough. You might just come out with more than a job you might leave with a dream and the courage to chase it.

My internship was funded by a grant from the State of Wyoming’s Workforce Development Training Fund and Wyoming Innovation Partnership, which supports the development of young professionals and local talent across the state.  I am extremely grateful to the State of Wyoming for providing grants that develop young talent across the state!

Thanks to all of you following along, and if you haven’t already — go check out Wyoming Hemp Co. trust me, your animals will thank you.
